Scarlett is reticent to complete her assignment quickly, as she has recently been through a terrible trauma. With the help of her best friend, Cassius, she is staying consistent with her nightly medication and coping, but she can be capricious and near feral at times.

Meanwhile, children are disappearing from the Black Syndicate, and Scarlett has to sneak in to see Prince Callan, her former lover, for help investigating the situation. Time is running out, everything could be connected, and learning that she doesn’t know everything could cause her to choose to fail this assignment.
